Former Parry Sound mayoral candidate wants Supreme Court challenge of electronic voting

Documents that were served to the Town this afternoon.

Former mayoral candidate Chris O’Gram has filed court documents against the Town of Parry Sound and its electronic voting system results.

O’Gram was at the Parry Sound court this afternoon when he filed documents that he says is intended for the Supreme Court of Canada.

He says that he has been compiling evidence since before the October 22nd municipal election.

“My point in doing this is that I want to bring the paper ballot back and I can’t get the council to do it…they’ll refuse it. So if I take it to court a judge will decide if we get a paper ballot or not,” he said.

O’Gram said that he was unable to review Intelivote’s electronic voting results because they are no longer available and wants another municipal election to be held where a paper ballot is an option.

“This is going to open a door for everybody and demonstrate that electronic voting is not safe. Everybody is being hacked right now,” he said.

O’Gram said that he feels the voting system and the town is corrupt and that he hopes the public will join him in filing a motion to join him.

He said that he was able to vote for himself twice within 15 minutes of voting using the same PIN provided by the televoting system during early voting in July.

Jamie McGarvey won with 1788 votes,  Dave Williams with 413 votes and Chris O’Gram garnered 225 votes.

None of these accusations has been proven in court.

O’Gram said he personally served town clerk, Jackie Boggs, this afternoon and that his next step will be creating a petition that addresses the paper ballot on his Facebook.

“We certainly respect anyone’s right to question the process, that’s part of the country that we live in. However, we are very confident in the process that was followed up to and including the declaration of the results,” said Clayton Harris, Cheif Administrative Officer with the Town said. “The town will be obtaining legal advice.”

The first court date is scheduled for January 7th at 10:00am.
