CP Holiday Train raises thousands for local food banks

The CP Holiday Train rode through Shawanaga, MacTier and Parry Sound collecting donations and spreading holiday cheer.

Now we know just how much was raised.

CP gave MacTier Food Bank $7,000, Shawanaga Food Bank $4,000, and Harvest Share $7000.

The train stopped in MacTier, Parry Sound and Shawanaga on Friday.

“Parry Sound really stepped up and the community members are unbelievably generous with what they donate every year. Our shelves are fully stocked and ready to share with individuals in need in our community,” said Wendy Pegahmagabow, executive director of Harvest Share.

“The need is huge and it’s increasing. Each week, we have new people coming in needing assistance. It’s a very difficult time for a lot people from now until spring. There’s definitely pressure on us to have enough to share with others.”

Donations are collected by the CP Holiday Train, then distributed to local charities. The total number for the CP Holiday Train campaign donations have not yet been tallied.
