Council wants residents to speak up about cannabis retail stores

The town has requested that residents who have an opinion about cannabis retail stores within Parry Sound, to submit comments in writing by December 7th.

MyParrySoundNow.com took to the streets to ask the people of Parry Sound what they think about this issue.

“I think it’s a great thing that the government did. A lot of people don’t see it, but the OATC (Ontario Addiction Treatment Centre) is available for people who need methadone and it’s free,” she said.

Kyle Farrows says that Parry Sound would benefit from a cannabis retail store. “We need places to buy legal cannabis without relying on postal services,” Farrows said.

Susan Rutledge, a long-time resident says she’s concerned about how kids could have greater access to cannabis. “I don’t think that’s a good thing. I mean, they’re finding it now but this would make it more accessible and I don’t think that would be good,” she said.

The town must respond to the province by January 22nd if it plans to prohibit retail stores.
