Malicious fire department calls cost the town thousands

The Parry Sound Fire department responds to an average of 200 calls per year.

Parry Sound Fire Chief, Dave Thompson said the department responds to an average of four malicious calls per year which could cost the town approximately $16,000 out of the town’s fire department budget.

The fire chief said that malicious calls tend to come from the local high school, public school and the old hospital building that has been converted into apartments.

While Thompson does not want to deter the public from calling 9-1-1 for emergencies, malicious calls specifically cost the town that could use those funds to benefit the rest of the community.
