One of the men charged in the murder of Dolores White in Kearney has pleaded guilty. Declan Letters appeared in Parry Sound Court on July 22nd and plead guilty to four counts. The Parry Sound Courthouse says he plead guilty to second-degree murder, unlawfully in a dwelling, dangerous possession of a weapon and utter threat to cause death. Letters will be back in court September 22nd to receive submission on sentencing.
Brock Gould is the second man connected to the murder and will appear in court August 19th. Gould is charged with accessory after the fact.
Meantime, The Almaguin News has released details about what happened the night of White’s murder. The newspaper reports Letters went into White’s home early in the morning on April 6th, after believing she wasn’t there. The 85-year-old scared Letters when she left the washroom causing Letters to hit her with the knife he had with him. Letters ran out of the house grabbing White’s purse with money inside. White was able to call her daughter from across the street before she was taken to hospital, where she later died. Letters fled to Gould’s house after throwing the knife in the lake and hiding White’s purse under rocks in Gould’s basement.
The newspaper also says, Letters stole his mother’s car the next morning, abandoned the car in Quebec and hitchhiked to friend’s house in Durham. When police learned where Letters was, he hid in someone’s basement and cut his own neck, while police were negotiating his surrender.
