Harvest Share of Parry Sound Hosts Community Lunch Program

Harvest Share of Parry Sound is holding a soup kitchen for anyone in need of a hot meal.

The soup kitchen begins today and prepares homemade soup and a bun for a small donation. The kitchen runs on Monday’s from noon to 1:30 pm until the end of March. They also provide take-out service for those on the move. The meal program is held at Mary St. Centre, formerly known as St. James United Church,

The food bank also hosts a full-course community dinner on Wednesday evenings beginning at 5 pm sharp and ends promptly at 6 pm for a donation of $2.

“The idea is social justice. Those that can afford to pay, may pay a little more sometimes and it sponsors others who can afford to pay for their meal,” said Harvest Share Executive Director, Wendy Pegahmagabow.

Harvest Share serves over 75 people on some occasions and is always looking for fresh food donations and volunteers. Pegahmagabow suggests that high school students looking to fill their volunteer hours requirement would be of value to the meal program.
