Autism Support Uses Technology to Expand Service in Parry Sound

The Family Help Network (Hands) is expanding access to autism support with the addition of a virtual Autism Walk-In Clinic starting this week.

The virtual clinics, along with Hands’ in-person autism clinics, are available to families who have a child or youth diagnosed with autism. The virtual clinic is designed to address concerns as well as provide family support and resources while waiting for behavioural services.

The virtual clinics will allow families to connect with Hands’ Autism Team for a same-day session by video or phone. Virtual Autism Walk-In Clinics are available every other Tuesday from noon to 6:00 pm.

Alternatively, families may continue to visit the in-person Autism Walk-In Clinic at 2 Mary Street.

“Through the addition of virtual Walk-In Clinic sessions, we have the ability to modernize how we connect with parents and the family supports we provide”, said Karen Grattan-Miscio, Senior Manager of Autism Services at Hands. “We are excited for the opportunities that virtual clinics bring, such as reaching families in rural communities and offering help from the comfort and ease of home.”

Hands’ Walk-In Clinics are not a crisis or emergency service. If you experiencing a crisis, contact the Mental Health Crisis Line at 1.844.287.9072 or visit your nearest health centre.
