The Process to End Fluoridation isn’t Over Despite Vote

The public has spoken–Parry Sound’s water will not be fluoridated.

The topic was a hot-button issue for voters in last night’s election. The Director of Public Works Peter Brown said that local water has not been fluoridated in nearly two years.

A major upgrade of the plant could have cost the town $250,000 to make it safer for staff and equipment modernization. The cost to put the plant back online would have had additional considerable costs as well during its life.

Brown said that this decision isn’t final yet. A by-law needs to be passed through council and presented to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Environment to permanently discontinue fluoride in water.
