Jamie McGarvey wins mayoral race in a landslide

Jamie McGarvey has been re-elected in a landslide.

As the Parry Sound Mayor enters his third term, he said he has big plans for residents at a steady pace.

“I’ve got a good new council to add to the mix; some with experience, some new, everyone campaigned very hard,” he said.

For future development, McGarvey said he listened to the concerns of voters who wanted to maintain the growth of Parry Sound without the town losing its charm. While housing and cannabis remain important issues to consider, economic development is on the forefront for the mayor.

McGarvey revealed that business expansion and support of industry and airport services will help to create jobs and development for residents.

“One of the things I have to take a look at is that whatever happens in the area also benefits Parry Sound and what benefits Parry Sound benefits the rest of the area. We see that all as one large picture,” McGarvey said.

McGarvey gathered 1788 votes while his opponent, Dave Williams, gathered 413 votes along with candidate, Chis O’Gram with 225 votes.
