Parry Sound Mayoral Debate an at times Heated Affair

A spirited Parry Sound Mayoral Candidate debate has heated up the final days of the municipal election.

Incumbent Jamie McGarvey and candidate and former councillor Dave Williams, along with a third candidate Chris O’Gram had the debate in the Huntsville studios of Cogeco Cable on October 11th.

While three were present, it was mainly Williams and McGarvey trading barbs about their records and achievements.

One area of contention surrounded Williams and his attendance at the Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce while he was a councillor from 2010 to 2014. It started with a question from McGarvey to Williams about his attendance at the chamber meetings.

“How was your attendance at the meetings?” asks McGarvey.

“I attended every meeting,” Williams says.

“No, you didn’t,” McGarvey shot back.

The conversation then progresses to a letter from the Chamber asking the Parry Sound council to seek a replacement due to Williams’ lack of attendance.

The pair began to talk over each other as McGarvey explained the nature of the letter.

“I think you’re mistaken Mr Mayor,” Williams says. “We’ve got a man that throws lies and just tries to smear people and you know what, I’m not like that.”

Williams went on to suggest that not a lot had been accomplished during McGarvey’s eight-year term.

McGarvey shot back saying, “You have been hiding in a hole somewhere and telling people a bunch of lies because there has been a lot accomplished.”
