Crews working to restore power to more than 51,000 customers

Thousands upon thousands of people across Muskoka and the neighbouring regions are without power tonight.

Hydro One says it has crews responding to over 500 outages affecting more than 51,000 customers across Ontario.

Outages are being reported in Bracebridge, Burk’s Falls, Huntsville, Magnetawan, Parry Sound, Sundridge, the Haliburton area and in many other communities across the region.

Today’s extreme weather is to blame. Hydro lines have been brought down in some cases because of the strong winds or because those winds have knocked trees down into the power line lines.

Crews are working to get the power restored. Lakeland Power is offering no estimated time of restoration at this time; however Hydro One is reporting a wide range of times people can expect the lights to turn back on. That range is between 10:00pm tonight and 8:00pm tomorrow night.

Keep in mind that because of the sheer volume of outages there’s no guarantee on these times. In the meantime, a wind warning remains in effect for the Parry Sound-Muskoka area.
