A Parry Sound teen is recovering in a Toronto-area hospital after being seriously injured.

17-year-old Dakota Reid was working on the driveshaft of his vehicle when the heavy part fell on him, crushing two vertebrae in his back.

Dakota was airlifted to Toronto where he underwent surgery with the hopes of repairing his spine.

It is not known at this time if the surgery was a total success and Dakota finds himself in pain when trying to move his legs.

It is expected that he will need to be in Hospital in Toronto for more than six months and there is a chance that his family will need to make renovations to their home for wheelchair access.

A friend of the family is holding a bake sale on September 29th at the Bargain Store and has set up a trust account to help Dakota and his family at the Kawartha Credit Union with the account number 1640473.
