Distracted Driving Campaign Starting This Weekend

With the long weekend here, O.P.P. wants to remind that distracted driving can be deadly.

O.P.P. report that they have responded to 5,619 distracted driver collisions so far this year. 31 of those cases resulted in a loss of life, and 1,051 injuries.

Ontario’s police force is reminding that with the long weekend here, there is zero tolerance for distracted driving at that drivers can face hefty fines and potentially jail time. As of January 2019 fees for distracted driving are going to rise to up to $1,000, three demerit points, and a three day suspension.

Novice drivers will face a thirty day suspension on the first offense.
