Parry Sound Mayor Gets Top Job at AMO

Parry Sound’s Mayor Jamie McGarvey has landed the top job with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

McGarvey was acclaimed as Association President at the annual conference in Ottawa last week.

In a statement from the AMO McGarvey said he was looking forward to fulfilling the role.

“I am looking forward to leading AMO for the next two years,” McGarvey said. “Through AMO, communities of all sizes can stand together and make a difference for the people of Ontario. We all move forward when we all move together.”

Serving on the AMO board since 2011, McGarvey brings plenty of insight and experience to the post.

Past President Lynn Dollin praised the amount of experience McGarvey brings to the job.

“Jamie brings decades of experience in municipal government and a passion for working with others on shared goals,” Dollin was quoted as saying the press release.

In his role, McGarvey represents a 43 member board consisting of municipal staff and elected officials. The board is meant to represent a cross-section of Ontario with rural and urban towns as well as northern communities in the mix.
