Blue-green algae confirmed on Three Mile Lake near Windermere and in Clark Falls area

A water test from a lake in Muskoka is confirming the presence of blue-green algae.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit discovered what was suspected to be a blue-green algae bloom in early August on Three Mile Lake near Windermere. The Ministry of Environment has confirmed the bloom is spreading the blue-green algae toxins.

The bacteria are also showing up in a water test for the Clark Falls area on Lake Rosseau.

Residents in both these areas are warned against using water for cooking, washing or bathing as the bacteria can’t be boiled out and can cause nausea. Swimming near a blue-green algae bloom can also lead to skin irritation and rashes.

The Health Unit will continue to keep local residents updated on the condition of the water in both of these lakes.
