Work on the Henvey Inlet Wind project through Shawanaga will start back up on Monday.
It was suspended back on July 26th because of persistent dry conditions and the Parry Sound 33 forest fire. In a release today, Chief Wayne Pamajewon said the work was suspended to give himself and council the chance to evaluate the safety measures Henvey Inlet Wind LP is using on Shawanaga First Nations lands.
Pamajewon says that evaluation has been done and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Operating Protocols are being followed. On top of that, Pamajewon says, the company has agreed to go above and beyond those protocols. It will be soaking areas for tracked equipment ahead of movement and will be extending the length of fire watches.
The company also has additional firefighting resources available that are dedicated to the Shawanaga lands. Chief Pamajewon and council are satisfied the work on building a truck turnaround at the edge of Highway 69, tree removal, and building the foundations for the transmission line poles can resume safely.
