Whitestone mayor acclaimed, seven candidates step forward for council

The race for mayor in Whitestone is already over, despite the election being three months away.

No one else filed nomination papers by Friday’s deadline, so incumbent Chris Armstrong has been acclaimed to the office.

When it comes to council there’s a little more competition, with voters having seven choices for four spots. Three incumbents, George Comrie, Joseph Lamb, Joe McEwen, are seeking re-election while Colette Deacon is not. The other candidates are Ken Corbett, Beth Gorham-Matthews, Tracey Shantz Sears and Brian Woods.

Voters will elect four councillors on October 22nd, with online and phone voting starting on October 9th.
