Residents in the Key Harbour area of Killarney have been ordered to evacuate.
The reason for that is the Henvey Inlet forest fire. The fire has moved to within one kilometre of the south shore of Key River.
Since this area is only accessible by the water, people are being asked to get in their boats, head upriver to Key Harbour Landing, and then leave by vehicle from there. The OPP and Conservation Officers are currently onsite helping notify the public of the situation and facilitating the evacuation.
The Henvey Inlet fire broke out Wednesday night and the MNRF’s fire map now lists it as 500 hectares in size and human-caused. Water bombers and fire crews are working to get the blaze under control and protect values. Sprinklers on structures have been put in place as a precautionary measure and will continue.
