New vaccinations required for students in local schools

School children now have a new immunization requirement in the Near North District School Board.  Parents must now provide schools with proof of immunization for meningococcal disease, whooping cough, and chicken pox unless a valid exemption is approved.  The new changes for the chicken pox vaccination only applies to children born in 2010 or later.  Parents and caregivers should check with their Health Care Provider or the Health Unit to determine if their child has all of the vaccines needed to attend school.  Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students can be suspended from school if they do not have all the required vaccinations.
