Town upset with progress on off-site construction for new school; approve exemption to allow more work time

Construction surrounding the new school property has been granted exemption to work longer.  At last night’s meeting, council heard from staff that they are very disappointed in the contractors doing the infrastructure work on Isabella, Beatty, Macklaim, and Hanna Streets on how long it is taking.  Council has approved an exemption to the noise bylaw to allow the contractors to work longer hours and to work on Sundays and holidays until the work is done.  MX Constructors was awarded the tender for the sewer, water, and storm sewer work that Director of Operations, Peter Brown, had expected to be completed by July first.  The town is sending a letter to the Near North School Board, the Ministry of Education, and the company to voice their disapproval of the slow work.
