Robinson Huron Treaty final arguments to end today

Final Arguments are due to wrap up today in the Robinson Huron Treaty Annuity case. 21 Anishinabek communities have taken the federal and provincial government to court for failing to uphold the terms of the treaty. At issue has been the augmentation clause with Anishinabek communities asking for an increase to the four dollars per year allowance that members receive. There has been no increase to the annuity since 1874, but the augmentation clause allows for increases. Chair of the Robinson Huron Treaty Trust, Mike Restoule says there is optimism:

Mike Restoule says a decision will likely come by December, and a settlement is a possibility:

Restoule says if there is no settlement, the second phase of the arguments dealing with technical and legal matters will resume in March 2019. The case has been in court since September of last year.
