You can experience Parry Sound today and from years gone by, and even pretend you were there. Parry Sound has made it onto the On This Spot App. The On This Spot App is a guided tour around Parry Sound with pictures from past and present. Using the in-app camera, you can even superimpose yourself into a historic photograph. On This Spot CEO Andrew Farris says “anyone with a smartphone can see their surroundings through the eyes of people a century or more ago, creating an exciting and tangible connection with the past.” The Town of Parry Sound, The Museum on Tower Hill and Bayside Inn made the app’s coverage for Parry Sound possible. Executive Administrator for The DBA, Susan Hyrcyna says this is the perfect way to show residents and tourists the history of the downtown. There will also be four walking tours to experience and learn more about Parry Sound’s history. Postcards featuring photographs seen through the app will be for sale in some downtown businesses.

Over 100 pictures were provided by The Museum on Tower Hill and local history enthusiast Mike Morden’s personal collection. Several other Canadian communities are on the app including Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg and Aurora. It’s free to download the app and can be used on Android and Apple devices.
