Parks Canada announces extended hours at the Trent-Severn Waterway

Parks Canada will be extending the hours of the locks at the Trent-Severn Waterway.  Last week, the Town of Parry Sound sent a petition asking to reconsider their decision to lay off 23 lock masters and operators and cut operation hours between two and 3.5 hours daily.  The announcement was made yesterday that the Trent-Severn Waterway will have extended operating hours beginning this Friday and during the peak visitor season, Parks Canada will end the use of mobile crews and will provide “upon arrival” service at all lock stations and bridges along the Waterway.  Our MP Tony Clement says he supports the enhancements as the Trent Severn is an important driver for many local businesses, including some right here in Parry Sound-Muskoka.  Beginning in time for the busy summer visitor season, the 2014 Hours of Operation are as follows:

June 27 to Sept. 1, 2014

Monday to Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Friday to Sunday; Canada Day, August Civic Holiday and Labour Day: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sept. 2 to Oct. 13, 2014

Monday to Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Saturday to Sunday; Thanksgiving: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
