Muskoka beaches could open this week following second search for sharps

Two of Bracebridge’s popular public beaches will likely re-open this week.
Kirby’s Beach and Bracebridge Bay Park were both closed over the long weekend for further searches for hazardous material. Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith says a scuba search at Kirby’s Beach turned up a few more items, but not enough to be of major concern.

Smith says he’s confident the beaches will be safe for use by the coming weekend.

The recent discovery reportedly included sewing needles, nails and broken glass.
The two beaches were closed in April after similar materials were discovered at each of the public spaces. A group calling itself the Islamic Revolutionary Force claimed to cause the vandalism and threatened more. Smith says he’s unsure if the discovery was connected to this threat.
The OPP is investigating.
