Parry Sound and area residents can dispose of their used vehicle batteries free of charge. CAA North & East Ontario began their Great Battery Roundup for all of Northern Ontario on Tuesday and the program runs until June 22. CAA will collect all used automotive batteries and have them shipped to a recycling facility for processing with the proceeds collected from the recycled batteries being donated to Trees Ontario, the largest not-for-profit tree planting partnership in North America. Locally, used batteries can be brought to Constables Towing and Body Shop on Hoddy’s Side Road in McDougall. Everyone is reminded that they should use protective clothing, gloves and eyewear when handling used batteries and they should remain upright in a plastic leak-proof container.
