Bobby Orr Centre surface construction delayed in till 2019

The surface rebuild project for the BOCC will continue as planned, however, the actual construction is being delayed until 2019.

At Tuesday night’s Council meeting, Lynn Middaugh Director of Development and Leisure Services explained the need to postpone the construction aspect of the project.

The current ice pad was installed in the early 1970’s and records of what lies beneath the surface are not known. This means adding to the timeline of the project while boreholes are dug to discover exactly what the new ice surface will be built on.

Adding to the timeline could mean interfering with the beginning of the 2018-2019 hockey schedule so it was recommended that project continues, with actual construction delayed until after the 2018-19 hockey season.

Council agreed that the investigation, assessment and design phase for the Ice Surface Rebuild continue in 2018 and the actual construction be deferred to 2019.
