MNRF fines a Parry Sound area man for spearfishing on banks of Lake Muskoka

Spearfishing in Muskoka is ending in charges for a Shawanaga man. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says Thomas Weichel pleaded guilty to possessing a spear for fishing in a Bracebridge court last week. He was fined $1,500 and his spear was seized and forfeited.

The ministry says conservation officers found the man with the spear at night along the banks of a Lake Muskoka tributary river, in an area where Walleye were actively spawning in the area at the time. The MNRF says spears can’t be possessed within 30 meters of the edge of any waterway. You can report a natural resource violation by calling the MNRF tips line at 1-877- 847-7667 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 222-TIPS.
