Fluoridation of Parry Sound’s water now in the hands of voters

It’s now up to you to decide whether drinking water in Parry Sound will be fluoridated.

On Tuesday night, Town Council held a public meeting regarding placing a question on the 2018 municipal ballot asking voters if they wanted fluoride in the water supply.

The meeting was the final step council needed in order for the referendum question to be placed on the ballot allowing voters to make the final decision.

The binding referendum requires more than 50 percent of total votes cast in order for a yes or no decision to be made.

Fluoride was removed from the water supply in 2016 after council rejected plans for a fluoride delivery upgrade costing $250,000.

After listening to arguments for and against fluoridation, council instead voted in favour of putting the referendum question on the upcoming ballot.
