The name of the victim of Saturday’s plane crash in Whitestone Township has been released. West Parry Sound OPP says the victim has been positively identified as 76-year-old Frederick Near from Acton, Ontario. Police say he was the lone occupant of the plane and a post mortem showed that the cause of death was determined to be drowning. The initial investigation revealed Near tried to land his plane on Taylor Lake around 8:00am Saturday morning when it flipped over and he was unable to get out. The investigation is on-going jointly by Transport Canada Safety Board and the Ontario Provincial Police.
