Urgent need for blood donors as March break approaches

Canadian Blood Services is in desperate need of your blood.

The agency is issuing an urgent plea for 35,000 Canadians to donate blood before March 10th, as cold weather and a long flu season have depleted inventories.

For Parry Sound residents, the next opportunity to donate locally is on Good Friday, when people might already have holiday plans.

Territory manager Elaine St. Pierre says it’s important to book ahead even if it does fall after the March 10th target date.

St. Pierre adds if you’re travelling outside of North America during the March break, there may be waiting period may before you can donate blood.

St. Pierre also points out there’s a blood donor clinic located in Barrie that’s open five days a week if you want to donate before the March break.

The next blood clinic in Parry Sound takes place on Good Friday, March 30th, between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at St Peter’s Church-Knights of Columbus Hall at 52 Church St.

To book an appointment or locate an open clinic nearest you, visit the Canadian Blood Services website.
