Parry Sound solace leads to Olympic gold

Olympic Gold medalist Gabrielle Daleman is crediting Parry Sound’s calming waters for her win.

The 20-year-old figure skater finished third on Sunday in the women’s free skate.

That sealed the deal for Canada, winning its first gold medal in the team figure skating competition in Pyeongchang.

Daleman was forced out of competition last spring because of a cyst in her abdomen that required emergency surgery.

To recuperate, Daleman says she spent three months at her family’s cottage in Parry Sound, at times just staring a the water.

She says the break saved her life and made her realize what was important and what was toxic.
