OPP’S OPERATION SAFE TRUCKING SAFETY BLITZ ENDS FRIDAY NIGHT

The OPP’s Operation Safe Trucking wraps up this Friday night.

Distracted and unsafe commercial truck drivers are the targets of this week-long safety blitz.

Police are on the lookout for truckers who are, among other things, speeding, driving while impaired, and following too closely.

Some officers are currently patrolling using transport trucks to get a better view of distracted drivers.

The OPP Festive R.I.D.E is also in full swing this weekend.

To date, West Parry Sound OPP has conducted 88 spot checks since Festive R.I.D.E. was launched on November 24^th.

In that time 4 drivers have been charged with impaired driving, one of which was the result of a R.I.D.E. spot check.

The program ends January 2^nd.
