This Saturday marks World Lupus Day

The Town of Parry Sound is recognizing World Lupus Day.  Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause severe damage to the tissue and organs in the body and, in some cases, death.  Experts say more than five million people worldwide suffer from the disease and each year over a hundred thousand young women, men and children are newly diagnosed with lupus with the majority being women of childbearing age.  Parry Sound town council declared this Saturday as World Lupus Day when organization around the world will call for increases in funding for medical research and the recognition of lupus as a significant public health issue.
