Parry Sound to make changes to water/wastewater pay rate system

The Town of Parry Sound is moving forward with a new wastewater and water pay rate structure for homes with meters.

Under the new system meter users will pay for the water they use, as well as a fixed charge for the pipes and infrastructure.

The town has been criticized in the past for the current water system, which charges varying rates per gallon, has different minimum gallons allowed per month and has different base rates for residential and commercial users.

The town is hoping this new system simplifies the system, and feels fairer to the customers.

According to Mayor Jamie McGarvey, the province wants metered systems in municipalities across the province.

The town estimates that there are around 2000 water and wastewater accounts. Only a third of them are metered, but that number is increasing.
