GBBR report ten new Massasauga rattlesnakes

The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve announced ten new Massasauga rattlesnake births.

According to the GBBR this was recorded on one of its rattlesnake gestation surveys done last week.

These ten snakes are thought to be the first ones born in the area this year.
The Massasauga rattlesnake is a threatened species. It is also the only venomous snake that lives in Ontario.

Massasaugas reproduce every two to three years, and have been known to live up to 20 years in captivity.
