Parry Sound looking for ministry funding for EMS station

Parry Sound is asking the Ministry of Health for funding to build an EMS station in Henvey Inlet First Nation.

Parry Sound Council approved a motion Tuesday to prepare documentation to justify the request for full funding from the government for the base.

Henvey Inlet had a first response team for 15 years. According to a Parry Sound council report it shut down six months ago due to a lack of resources.

The next closest EMS stations are in Pointe au Baril and Noelville.

The Ministry of Health and Henvey Inlet First Nation met in May to talk about options for emergency services in the area. The ministry said during their meeting that there was a possibility of full government funding if justification for the money was provided.

If negotiations for the new base are successful, Parry Sound EMS hopes to have service in place for the summer of 2018.
