The latest food drive has helped stock the shelves at both food banks but the need is still great. Earlier this month, The Parry Sound Emergency Services held their second annual Spring food drive. Salvation Army Lieutenant Justin Gleadall says the food drive was timely for The Salvation Army’s food bank as the shelves were looking bare due to an increase in usage over the past few months. The Salvation Army food bank saw an increase in demand of 29% at their emergency food bank over the previous year and while they received a couple hundred pounds of food from our Christmas food drives, it was just enough to help respond to the increased need that was presented during the winter months. The Salvation Army wants to encourage residents to continue to look to support those in need in Parry Sound through organizing a food drive on a small or a large scale and those who are interested can contact the church office at (705) 746-5391 in order to obtain a food drive kit containing all necessary information for making your drive successful.
