The Town of Parry Sound is hoping to get further rail safety education. Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from April 28 to May 4 and council agreed to support Operation Lifesaver, a partnership whose aim is to work with the rail industry, governments, police services, the media and other agencies and the public to raise rail safety awareness. The initiative aims to raise citizens’ awareness on reducing avoidable accidents, injuries and damage caused by collisions at level crossings or incidents involving trains and citizens. Council also added that a letter be sent to both rail companies inviting them to come to Parry Sound to speak with residents in an open forum to better inform them.
