Town explains removal of DBA Chair

The Chair of Parry Sound’s Downtown Business Association was removed because of a misuse of position and authority.  Town Council was informed and confirmed irregularities in the DBA’s minutes which goes against Robert’s Rules of Order, a set of rules for most public and private sector Boards to incorporate into their meeting management rules.  DBA Chair Lis McWalter was told that the actions did not follow proper minute taking procedures, but she did not change the way things were being done.  In a closed session of council on March 25th, council discussed these actions and other policy related issues that cannot be revealed due to confidentiality rules and passed a resolution in open session to remove Ms. McWalter from the DBA Board.  Mayor Jamie McGarvey says that the Town of Parry Sound is responsible for making sure that all boards in which council appoints members follow proper rules of procedure and that council doesn’t remove members lightly or without reason.  As a result of the integrity commissioners report, accepted at the April 1st council meeting, council will be more in tune with all of the boards that operate as an extension of council.
