Carling asking residents to write letters opposing proposed OPP funding model

Another Parry Sound District municipality is asking its residents to write letters against the new OPP billing model.  Carling Township Council strongly opposes the new funding model which would see the municipality’s policing costs increased by almost five times annually to over $643,000.  Council believes the provincial government is being extremely unfair to the property taxpayers in rural Ontario and are asking residents to participate in a letter writing campaign for reconsideration of the funding model.  They also believe the cost impacts are unacceptable and unaffordable for a rural municipality.  Carling residents can log on to the municipality’s website to download a draft letter to be sent to the Premier, the Minister responsible for the OPP, and our local MPP.
