Canadian Colleges asks province for more funding

Enough is enough, says a number of Ontario Colleges.

Ontario Colleges are looking to sit down with Premier Kathleen Wynne to address some problems they have with their current funding.

A report from PricewaterhouseCooper says the current model of funding is unsustainable for Ontario Colleges.

According to the study, if things continue the way they are now colleges could face an annual operating deficit that will exceed $400 million a year by 2024.

President of Canadore College George Burton says he thinks the government doesn’t fully appreciate the challenges colleges face.

Currently 53 percent of Canadore’s budget comes from government funding.

The Ministry of Advanced Education says they are aware of the trends shown in the PWC report, and that moving forward they plan to develop

They also say Minister Deb Matthews will continue talks with colleges in February to ensure they have the funding and mandate needed to solidify the role of colleges.
