DBA gets funding for Market Square Park revamp, still need council approval

The Downtown Business Association has secured a grant to upgrade Market Square Park, but the proposed plan has yet to be approved.  TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Tree Canada announced today that the Parry Sound DBA has been awarded with one of 25 TD Green Streets grants worth up to $15,000.  In the January 21st meeting, the DBA made a deputation to council showing them a proposed plan to plant close to 200 new trees and shrubs to enhance the look of the park.  Council advised the DBA that Market Square Park is still owned by the Town and any changes must be approved through council.  At the next meeting on February 4th, council directed staff to coordinate meetings with all of groups that use the park to get their opinions on the proposed changes.  All the meetings are to be public and council is expected to make a decision based on information gather from the meetings on how the park should be upgraded.
