MP announces tougher laws on sex offenders

Tougher punishments are in the works for child predators.  Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement announced this week the introduction of Bill C-26.  If passed the Tougher Penalties for Child Predators Act would increase penalties for child sex offenders.  Clement says the bill would ensure better protection for youth in our communities and would punish sex offenders to the full extent of the law.  Proposals include increasing maximum and minimum prison sentencing and require offenders to serve sentences consecutively.  If passed it would also increase information sharing between the National Sex Offender Registry and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
