French school board considers Parry Sound region for new elementary school

A northern school board is responding to interest in a French-language elementary school in Parry Sound.
Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario based in North Bay has received some requests from the area to offer a French-language curriculum.
Spokesperson Guylaine Sherer says they will be meeting with parents and stakeholders in the community.
There has been interest expressed in Muskoka as well, so Sherer says they are currently considering one school to cover the entire region.
Sherer says at that point they will make a decision on if it is best option to cover the needs for families wanting access to a French-speaking school in the region.
She says the board has an obligation to look into these requests and gauge the amount of interest from local families.
Officials with the board will meet with the public on November 30th, at the Parry Sound Public Library between 7:00pm and 9:00pm.
The board currently offers French-language education to North Bay, Timmins, Hearst, Kapuskasing, Sturgeon Falls, Temiskaming Shores and Iroquis Falls.
