Health Unit looking to have all students’ immunization records up to date

Parents are reminded to make sure their children’s immunization records are up to date.  The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reviewing the immunization records of every elementary school student in the district and if a child’s record is not complete, their family will be sent a letter from the Health Unit requesting the required information.  The Immunization of School Pupils Act gives the Health Unit the authority to suspend students if they do not have up to date immunization records.  All schools in the Near North District School Board have been assessed and letters requesting missing information will be mailed out this week while all other schools in our district will be assessed in early March with letters mailed out later that month.  Suspension notices will be issued at the beginning of April to students who still have incomplete immunization records.  If students’ immunizations are not up to date, Near North District School Board students could be suspended on April 23rd and all other students could be suspended on May 7th.  If you have any questions, call the Health Unit at 705-474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808, ext. 2252 or visit them online at www.myhealthunit.ca.
