One dead in 4-vehicle crash on Highway 400

Details have been released on this morning’s fatal collision on Highway 400.  Orillia OPP and emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of the Highway near Vasey Road in Severn Township around 3:30am this morning.  The initial investigation has revealed that a van was heading south when it lost control, hit a snowbank and flipped over.  One motorist stopped to help the man in the van when a transport truck and trailer tried to stop, but jacked-knifed and struck the motorist who was trying to help.  A fourth vehicle involved was a pickup truck that ran into the tractor trailer as it slid sideways across the highway.  The chain of events has resulted in the death of one man who has yet to be identified and another man sent to hospital.  Police say it was snowing at the time of the incident, but have yet to confirm a cause for the crash.  The southbound lanes of Highway 400 in that area remain closed and are expected to be opened around noon today.
