Team Europe beat Sweden 3-2 in overtime yesterday to advance to the World Cup finals.  Europe will now face Canada in the best of three final.

The first weekend of the OHL season kicked off with regional teams in action.  On Friday night, The Barrie Colts edged Kingston 2-1, the North Bay Battalion lost to Niagara 3-1, the Sudbury Wolves got by Oshawa 4-3, and the Owen Sound Attack fell to Sarnia 3-2.  On Saturday it was the Attack losing their second straight game 2-0 to Flint. Sunday saw the Colts beat Ottawa 7-5 and the Wolves fall to Mississauga 6-1.

Edwin Encarnacion hit a walk off single to score Kevin Pillar as the Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 4-3 yesterday. Toronto has won five of their last six games. The Jays hold the top AL wild-card spot, leading Baltimore by a 1 and a half games and Detroit by three.

In NFL action yesterday, Buffalo thumped Arizona 33-18, Minnesota surprised Carolina 22-10 and in the late game Dallas beat Chicago 31-17. Philadelphia crushed Pittsburgh 34-3, Washington beat the Giants 29-27 and Baltimore edged Jacksonville 19-17.

Some sad news from the world of golf, Arnold Palmer died Sunday in Pittsburgh. He was 87. Palmer won seven major championships and had 62 PGA Tour wins.
