Minimum wage increasing in June

The minimum wage in Ontario is going up.

Ontario has passed legislation to raise minimum wage from $10.25 to $11.00 per hour on June 1st.

The new rate was determined by taking into account the rise in the Consumer Price Index since the last minimum wage increase back in 2010.

The government also introduced legislation to continue tying future minimum wage increases to the CPI to make sure that the minimum wage keeps up with the cost of living.

Under the proposed legislation increases would be announced by April 1st and implemented on October 1st.
