Courses to help people recognize mental illnesses coming to Parry Sound

Mental Health First Aid is coming to Parry Sound.  Last week, Bell announced $10,000 in funding to Muskoka Parry Sound Community Mental Health Service (MPSCMHS) in order to bring training to our area.  Mental Health First Aid Canada is an interactive course that can benefit anyone including teachers, health care professionals, emergency service workers, employers, and the public and no previous mental health experience is necessary.  Educator and Mental Health First Aid instructor  Suzanne Witt-Foley says  the course doesn’t train people to diagnose mental illness, it provides the first aider with actions to guide a person in need to appropriate professional help when a problem first arises.  For more information about mental health first aid, dates and locations of the upcoming courses in our area, contact Suzanne Witt-Foley at [email protected].
