Police remind ice users to stay clear of tracks left by ice breakers

Police are reminding ice users to stay clear of open water left behind by ice breakers on Georgian Bay.  On Monday, Southern Georgian Bay OPP were called to a spot near Sucker Creek on Midland Point after a local resident watched as only two of three snowmobiles made it across open water near the south tip of Beausoliel Island that was left by ships that departed earlier in the day.  Police along with paramedics and fire found the third snowmobiler lying on the ice near the open water after being helped by an area scoot operator, but he avoided the emergency services on shore and drove off.  Although no charges were laid by police in this investigation, all involved emergency services personnel strongly urge anyone going out on the ice to do so with caution and check with local sources as no ice is safe ice.
